Taste-testing events to focus on The Pickwick's new line of dairy-free, gluten-free, sugar-free, organic, sprouted grains/breads, and vegan products.

January 20, 2009 (Greenville, SC) – The Pickwick, a locally-owned pharmacy and soda fountain, announced today that it will host two health and wellness events this week, both which are open to the public and free of charge. The events on January 22 and 23 will introduce The Pickwick's new line of dairy-free, gluten-free, sugar-free, organic, sprouted grains/breads, and vegan products, specifically those foods offered by Roxanne's Remedies – a company based in Asheville, NC. The Pickwick is located in Greenville at 3219 Augusta St.

The event schedule is as follows:

Thursday, January 22
Roxanne's Remedies Taste-Testing Event
11:30 am – 1:00 pm
4:30 pm – 6:00 pm

Friday, January 23
Roxanne's Remedies Taste-Testing Event & Health Seminar with guest speakers Roxanne Smith and Dr. Jane Teas: How to Live a Healthier Lifestyle
Space is limited; registration required

Items sampled at both events will include shepherd's pie, pressed seaweed salad, faux egg salad, chickpea salad, spicy noodles, chili, mashed millet, pumpkin mousse, and chocolate mousse – all from Roxanne's Remedies and all of which are vegan, gluten-free, and sugar-free. Each product is made from combinations of macrobiotic ingredients that are used to help strengthen the digestive and immune system. Roxanne Smith, owner of Roxanne's Remedies and author of the Cancer Cookbook, is an advocate of the health benefits of organic foods as well as supporter of the Food Wisdom Gluten-Elimination program.

The evening event on January 23 includes a health seminar with guest speakers Smith as well as Dr. Jane Teas, a Research Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina and the South Carolina Cancer Center. Dr. Teas received her doctorate from Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health and did her Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard School of Public Health. Because seating is limited, registration is required for the evening seminar.

Chad Odom, co-owner of The Pickwick, commented, "With interest in organic food products growing at a fast pace and the number of child allergies expanding year-after-year, The Pickwick is expanding its offerings to provide customers with additional options and alternative choices. Although sometimes prescribed by a doctor or physician, we've found that most of our customers prefer the health and wellness products simply because they feel it is healthier for them and their families."
